The Science Behind Cannabinoids

Your Health &
Wellness Team

Research, Individualization,
Transparency

What makes Alethiah one-of-a-kind is our mission:

To serve and guide our patients on their wellness journey by providing them with CONSISTENT + TARGETED phyto-cannabinoid based products

This mission sounds like a standard one that you’d think would be common in the cannabinoid industry, right? Sadly, it’s not.

The truth of the matter is that there’s more false information and labeling than you’d most likely suspect. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, published in November 2017 by the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that nearly 70% of all CBD products sold online were either over- or under-labeled in terms of CBD content, causing potential serious harm to consumers.

Aware of all the inconsistencies, Alethiah came together with our Medical Advisory Board to reclaim the industry. Starting with the basic science of cannabinoids, our researchers are ethically pushing the industry, holding true to our Three Pillars: Research, Individualization and Transparency.

Your Body’s
Quest for
Balance

The Endocannabinoid System

Without you even knowing it, your body is in a constant quest for homeostasis and balance.

Imbalances in your body can stem from genetic or lifestyle influences – poor diet, stress, pharmaceutical or recreational drugs, alcohol, physical disease and psychological disorders. One of the most important tools your body uses to achieve homeostasis is your own Endocannabinoid System (ECS). It has three key components found throughout your body:

Endocannabinoids
Cannabinoid Receptors
Metabolic Enzymes
Endocannabinoids are cannabinoid compounds produced naturally by cells within your body and actually activate the same cannabinoids receptors that CBD and THC do.

Binding to particular receptors on the surface of cells, endocannabinoids activate internal signal transduction pathways and, ultimately, exert positive effects through their cellular response.

Pivotal in regulating a wide range of physiological processes – including appetite, sleep, anxiety level, mood, cognition, how you experience pain and more – your ECS is vital to your wellbeing!

How Phyto-Cannabinoids Help

So how does your body function if its ECS gets out of balance? To put it simply, other parts of your body will overcompensate, leading to even more imbalance, harmful to your long-term health. Imagine a teeter-totter at the playground. If one side is heavier than the other, it’s out of balance and doesn’t work. This is what happens within your own body when your ECS is not in homeostasis.

A natural way to adjust your body’s ECS levels is to supplement it with Alethiah’s phyto-cannabinoids derived from our quality hemp oil. Phyto-cannabinoids (plant-based cannabinoids) and endocannabinoids (cannabinoids produced by the body) act much in the same way.

Just like your body’s own endocannabinoids, once phyto-cannabinoids enter your body, they travel in search of your cannabinoid receptors, the primary ones being CB1 and CB2.

CB1 receptors are abundant in very high levels in several brain regions.

CB2 receptors have a more restricted distribution, predominantly found in immune cells and neurons.

CB1 and CB2 receptors “sit and listen” on the surface of your cells, ready to find the phyto-cannabinoids outside of the cell. Once detected, the CB1 and CB2 receptors allow the phyto-cannabinoids to bind to the cell. They then produce a wealth of medicinal relief for dozens of symptoms.

Once the phyto-cannabinoids are used, your body’s metabolic enzymes quickly destroy them, ensuring they are engaged only when they’re actually needed but not longer than necessary, maintaining your body doesn’t “overdo it,” again naturally keeping its homeostasis.

What Does This Mean in Simple Terms?

Alethiah’s hemp oil contains an abundance of beneficial phyto-cannabinoids. To help you understand the process, think of a key unlocking a door. Once inside your body, these phyto-cannabinoids will act like a key and only it can unlock your body’s own ECS receptors, helping your body become more balanced, both physically and emotionally.
